Jonathan Lorange is a friend of mine. He is a top drawer photojournalist and street photographer and I profiled him in 2010. He photographed me in action in 2011. I never profile many other photographers, but Jonathan is damned good and he deserves all recognition given.
I received a note on Facebook from Jonathan in early July. He was vacationing in Istanbul and he sent me a note telling me that he was having a fantastic time doing street photography. Then the Turkish military coup d'état took place. For a few days there was a media blackout and frankly I was worried about his safety. Then, I received a note from him. He wrote that was alive and well and had plenty of photographs of the failed coup. We will meet soon to talk about the politics of the coup. In the meanwhile, here are his photographs of the pro-Erdogan activists in Istanbul, immediately following the military action. These pictures were taken on film cameras, two Leica M6 cameras and a Hasselblad 500/CM. He has plenty more pictures, so this is the tip of the iceberg. I hope that the pictures are published soon.
